Sharper Edge

I spent Sunday morning after Church edging the curbs. It was a huge job, as I don't think it had been done on the west side - for a very long time.

Here are the end results. Now if only the city would fix the streets so I didn't have to mow them too!

Wedding Was Wonderful!

Susan and Bryan were wed July 4, in Amarillo, Tx. Everything was wonderful, the couple put alot of thought and planning into the event. Just the preparation for the reception was overwhelming, the transformation of the hall was unbelievable.

Those of you who were able to make it to Texas, hopefully had a great time and those of you who were unable to join us - you were missed!

Attached a few photos.... but check out Red Frame Photography Blog - July 5 entry, their photographer Amanda posted some awesome photos!

My favorite little guy....

18 months and hopefully able to see him this coming weekend....

Practice Makes Perfect..... or

I WAS working on this really cool round blanket named Girasole.... very intricate and fun to do BUT my circular needles are not long enough and when they came apart, the stitches "sprung free". I am getting very good at this pattern as I have attempted it 4 times....yes 4 starts and up to Pattern D in directions each and every time. Now I'm not really slow, just didn't have funds to buy the 50 inch extension I needed. I have decided to look for a THIRD job in order to afford it but have vowed I WILL COMPLETE the pattern, only it looks like it will be in a different color and at a later date. Meanwhile I am working on ANOTHER pattern, and so far knock on wood and cross my fingers it's going much better.

Kelli's Back!

Kelli has returned to work for the summer. She had been attending college in Moberly, MO and found her way back to Iowa. Many of you know Kelli as "the best page" ( her own words)....
So if you stop by the Root Cellar and notice it is not quiet as previously, you'll probably find Kelli at the desk.
No seriously, she is awesome, and not at all intimidated by some of our patrons, so all is well.
Welcome Back Kelli - Summer has arrived!

Spring has sprung - finally!

I LOVE when the flowers start blooming in my garden, but must admit I am a warm weather gardner... don't look too close because it hasn't been warm enough to get out and clean up the beds yet... hopefully tomorrow when I am off and it should be 80! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Venting....

I have heard that some people spend a fortune on a therapist, some use their ministers, some keep their thoughts to themselves till they explode. I am going to quickly vent and then hopefully move on....
The world today is full of way tooooo many self centered - selfish people. The people I am referring to have college educations so we are not looking at some dumb schmoos (sp?)., These people are only happy when they can be the center of attention and are so immature and selfish that they cannot see how they may be hurting people and that it may be a decision that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. These people need to realize they are not going to be able to control everyone around them and that they need to go with the flow.....
I know you may be totally confused, but I feel better and after all it's MY blog and I'll add the therapist savings to my summer travel fund :)

Getting ready for the big event!

I found MY gown to compliment THE gown. I'm very happy with how it worked out, LOVE the color, LOVE that no alterations were needed and it was selected and tried on and purchased in under 10 minutes! When you know what you like and it fits and looks good, go for it - right?

Love that guy!

What I've been doing....

Sorry I haven't updated lately, but I have two other blogs and some major programs I had been working on. (also two jobs, more snow to shovel and a house that seems to be needing some attention.... a wonderful unexpected visit from a childhood friend(it was THE best thing to happen to me so far in this year!) and the normal every day rat race stuff in between)
The blogs are from work - one for the family history people www.rootcellar.blogspot.com and one for the creative friends who have recently invaded the room... www.rootcellarknit.blogspot.com

In the last month I have taught 12 new knitters - from the beginning and one little 8 year old how to purl - her aunt taught her how to knit but ran out of time to teach her to purl (quoted from Olivia) anyway it's been kinda fun. I got my own projects out and finished a few, made a half dozen hats or so for the baby project and then finished one afghan and have a good start on another, made a couple pair of slippers - one for me and I LOVE them, will have to post photo - chunky bulky yarn half wool and they are nice and toasty warm!

Have been looking for a dress for this special event I heard I will be invited to in July, and the peeps that are throwing the party are pretty awesome so I have to find the perfect apparell. The hostess has the most beautiful gown, and the host looks awesome in a tux (I've seen past photos of that!) so wish me luck!

I had my taxes figured this week, always a laugh.... "so is this all the income? don't you have any interest income?..." The good news is I'm getting a small amount back but the best news is I don't owe them ANYTHING!

Well I will try to get some more news on here soon, but know I am well, and busy and with that pretty much staying out of trouble, hopefully I will have time for some fun soon !

BRRRRRRRRRRRR- Snow - a 4 letter word that's overused lately!

I went home at lunch to dig out the driveway if the snowplow had made a pass, and he did so got to dig out the end, and move the last 3/4" off from after I went to work.
We had at least 5" last night and added to the already - too much we had before, I am running out of room. As you cn see it's getting harder to get it high enough to get it off the driveway! The street end is up to my shoulders, so let's hope it thaws sometime before June 1! It's already difficult to see to get out on the street.
Will try to take another photo from the street.....

THINK SPRING

I know its only the first week of January, but I've had enough winter! It may be because the mailbox has had garden catalogs with beautiful flowers on the covers every day this week.

In my first half century of life I've discovered that I much prefer mowing grass to shoveling snow, and would rather be hot than cold, and see no reason to change at this point in my life.

The stores start promoting Christmas in September and it seems like it's here before you know it, so I am personally going to promote Spring starting in January and hope it works the same way!

Just think how nice it would be to smell the newly mowed lawn, to dig in the dirt and cut a few fresh flowers to put on your desk.......warm nights to enjoy the patio with a glass (or two) of wine,

fresh picked tomatoes....

P.S. I don't want to hear from any smart mouthed southern daughter & fiance on how high the tulips are or how hard it is to go from 32 in the AM to 70's in the PM..... I want it to be Spring in Iowa!
